As conspiracy theories become mere spoiler alerts, Netflix is getting ahead of the narrative. ‘V for Vendetta’ will debut in the documentary category to maintain goodwill with viewers.
“V for Vendetta” occurs in the 2020s when a fascist government plants a virus to control every aspect of their citizens’ lives. This second year of world lockdown would break viewers’ trust in Netflix if it were categorized as fiction.
“When our viewers realize “St. Mary’s virus” is another name for Covid, they’ll blame us. By recategorizing the film as a documentary, we hope viewers will see Netflix providing entertainment, not manipulating their politics,” admitted Netflix CEO Mabel Maycomer
Public Awareness of Operation Mockingbird now Widespread
The Church Committee’s congressional report was a significant factor in this decision. Published in 1976, the report details the CIA’s Operation Mockingbird. By then, the CIA admitted to placing 400 agents in newsrooms across the U.S. to influence public opinion. The operation soon expanded to include the movie industry; one can only speculate as to how many “assets” are in place in 2021.

The film is set in the 2020s, and London is now under the authoritarian rule of the fascist High Chancellor Sutler (John Hurt), the highly Nazi-looking Norsefire party leader.

V for Vendetta is a British graphic novel written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd (with additional art by Tony Weare). It was published in 1982 as an ongoing serial and morphed into a ten-issue limited series published by D.C. Comics. The film version was released in 2005.
